Hawkins County Schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, January 10 due to the Winter Storm Warning. We understand this week has brought about several changes ranging from delays to closings. Please realize that we cover a large range of varying terrain and conditions within the 500 square miles we serve. While we try to ensure access to school and instruction daily, road conditions affecting the county or portions thereof, often pose unsafe travel concerns. When these conditions exist or when we are reasonably certain of them, we exercise our responsibility to shorten or cancel school. We build in 13 inclement weather days each year due to our students attending 30 minutes in excess of State-required classroom instructional time. Delayed starts and early dismissals do not count against this total and often provide us with windows of time to drive roads, inspect conditions, and/or release students prior to unsafe road conditions developing. We utilize National Weather Service predictions, out of Morristown, and several other resources, such as EMS dispatch (reports of any unsafe road conditions), and employee observations and road inspections prior to making these difficult decisions. We appreciate your patience, especially when road and weather conditions may be safe for travel in your area.

Important Notice for TAG Program Parents: Please be advised that school buses will not be operating for the TAG program on Saturday, January 11th due to expected severe weather. Parents are responsible for transporting their children to and from the program on this date."

Due to existing and worsening road conditions, particularly secondary roads throughout the county, Hawkins County Schools will be closed tomorrow, January 9. Please watch for further announcements and updates, particularly as Friday’s storm moves into our area.
