Hawkins County Schools receives Morgan Wallen Grant

Hawkins County Schools receives a Morgan Wallen GrantBulls Gap School, Carters Valley Elementary, and Surgoinsville Middle School each received $5,000 for their music programs. In 2024, Clinch School was also a $5,000 recipient and was able to purchase instruments.

With this funding, the three schools were able to purchase much-needed instruments, audio, video, and lighting equipment, as well as a choral riser. Teacher Beth Lynn from Carters Valley Elementary said, “These items enhance our music program, and the students can now all be seen during a concert. We were able to purchase some items that help our students learn about musical elements too.”

Music teachers Benjamin Mahan from Bulls Gap and Josh Fritts from Surgoinsville Middle School were equally enthusiastic. Mr. Mahan stated, “Our band program is in the early stages, so having this funding has allowed us to purchase instruments that we otherwise could not. I am truly blown away by this generous gift.”

Music teacher and musical theater director Josh Fritts shared his excitement: “Our small school has a unique student band, as well as students interested in and performing musical theater. This gift has given us the opportunity to expand our program and purchase so many instruments and equipment that we desperately needed.”

Director of Schools Matt Hixson added, “Music is an important part of education. Foundations such as this are significant partners for our schools, and we greatly appreciate their support.“
