Hawkins County teachers kicked off the new school year at the 2024-2025 HCS General Meeting!

Parents and guardians, we will be fully enforcing our cell phone expectations, particularly at the high school level this school year, beginning August 5. As a reminder, we did not allow cell phone use in classrooms last year. This year, we will move to not allow cell phones to be used during school. This is in accordance with Board Policy 6.312, which states, “Middle school students’ cell phones and other electronic devices are to be turned off and not visible upon a student’s arrival to school (upon entering the school building) until the end of the student’s school day. High school students are not permitted to use cell phones during or between classes unless it is for academic purposes, under direct supervision of a classroom teacher.” Thank you for your understanding and support.

We are so excited to have these fantastic teachers join the Hawkins County School District family!! Our new teachers were treated to a delicious Bull Babies breakfast (courtesy of HCEA/Quinn Kersey) to get the New Teacher Orientation started off right. The day was filled with exemplary teachers sharing a wealth of information to help our newest teachers have a successful year. HCS is blessed with the best!

“The Tennessee Department of Health requires all children entering 7th grade to have a
T-dap booster vaccine, Tetanus-Diphtheria and Pertussis. Children entering the 7th grade must show proof of this immunization to be admitted to school in August. If you have not already done so, please make an appointment with your health care provider or local health department for your child’s vaccine. All immunizations must be on the official TN Dept. of Health Certificate. Please turn your documentation into your school.
Children with medical exemptions must provide documentation from their medical provider. Religious exemptions require a signed statement by the parent/guardian that vaccination(s) conflict with their religious tenets or practices.
Thank you.”

Parents, guardians and students,
I am very excited about the upcoming opportunities as we merge CHIS and CHMS into one school. Our current goal is to continue running each of the schools separately, keeping the intermediate grades (5&6) and middle grades (7&8) in their own wings of the building and continuing all drop-off, pick-up, and bus loading the same. The biggest changes we will be working on is creating common expectations, procedures and leadership among all of our faculty and staff to lessen the stress of the transition between grade levels. We appreciate your patience, as this will take time. Leaders from both schools will be working hard this summer and upcoming year to make this happen.
We welcome input from all of our stakeholders, as it takes our entire community working together to offer the best education for all of our students. Feel free to click on the link below with questions or suggestions, or email me any time at sherry.price@hck12.net.
We value your input and help!
