Organization is key in the sixth grade. Get organized at the beginning and stay organized throughout the year and you will be very successful in all of your classes. (Especially mine!!!)
About Social Studies: We will have a notebook in this class that will be checked at least once every chapter. It is to your advantage to bring this notebook to class everyday and keep up with it. We will have 5 tabs that will be labeled: Definitions, Questions, Workbook/Worksheets, Study guide, Quick Facts.
Sixth grade social studies is directed on World History. We cover many places, people, religion, dates, and culture throughout ancient history. We typically start the day with Channel One, which is a national news station. This helps us stay up to date on current events. Class work for each chapter usually includes vocabulary words, questions, and an activity. I do not take this work up until the end of the chapter, but I will check daily to make sure it is getting completed. We will go over each section before moving on. Students will get a study guide at the end of the chapter, we will have a review and then take a chapter test. It is important to keep up with your work in your folder and not to misplace it. We listen/read each section orally to ensure that all students are getting the information. (It will be played on cd in the classroom)
Daily class work will be posted on my website. It is important to check this if you are absent. It is the easiest way to get your make-up work. It is the responsibility of the student to get his/her make-up work.

Welcome students to Mrs. Morelock’s Social Studies class. This is a list of a few classroom procedures and rules. My class is as hard as you make it. If you do the work, listen and study, you will succeed. If you fail to do this, the outcome may not be so desirable. Bring this back signed and get your first 100!
Materials: Notebook, tabs, pencil, paper
Attendance: Please try your best to make it to school. If you miss, you have one day for every day you are out to make up your work. If you miss a “test” day you will take the test when you return to school. It is your responsibility to get your makeup work. If you miss you can check my website or come and ask me what you need. Remember makeup work is only for excused absences.
Homework: I rarely assign Homework. If you do not finish class work it is your responsibility to take it home and finish.
Leaving the Classroom: Please do not make it a habit to leave the classroom, there is time in between classes to go to the restroom and get your belongings. Look on the board when you get in class and make sure you have everything you need before we start. As long as we have not yet started, you are welcome to set your things down and go back out to the restroom or your locker.
Tests: We test every chapter and we have a semester test at the end of both semesters.
Grades: I take grades on your chapter work, which will be your definitions and questions. If you do them and correct them in class you will get a 100. I take a grade on tests and on class activities. I will let you know if a worksheet or activity is a grade, sometimes it will be part of your chapter work. Semester tests count as two grades. If you do not turn anything in or if it is incomplete, I will pull you from activities and have you work on it. Points will be deducted, so do yourself a favor and do it the first time. Extra credit is available on my website.
Classroom Rules Come Prepared: Bring your notebook, book, and pencil to every class. Have Responsibility: Get your makeup work if you are absent. Keep up with your chapter work and take time to study. Sit in your assigned seat. Get your work completed. Make Good Choices: If you are having trouble in class or with someone, ask or tell me. If you have your phone, keep it put up. Get to class on time instead of talking in the hall. Do not chew gum in class.
