What Does it all Mean?

Understanding Your Child's Progress Report

Homework Quiz:

Homework Quizzes are given each Friday.  Below are possible causes for low grades on progress reports and recommendations:

1. The student simply doesn't do the work.

2. The student looses the work before they turn it in.

3. The work turned in isn't corrected when we go over it in class.

Recommendations:

* Students should write down their assignments in their assignment books daily.

* Students should use their "Peek at the Week" as a checklist to make sure assignments are due.

* Use a colored pen to correct work.  This way, corrections standout.

*Designate a time and place to complete work.

* Attend tutoring.

* Check our class website for assignments.

DLR Quiz:

Students are given a Daily Language Review (DLR) to complete each day.  These DLR's consist of 5 Grammatical questions.  Students complete them on their own and correct their answers using a Power Point presentation on the TV screen.  I keep up with the DLR so they are not lost.  They are taken up each day.  If students are making low scores on DLR, they are simply not paying attention in class and correcting their answers.

Chapter Test:

These are content skills tests.  If students do not do well on these test, they are not getting the skill we have covered.  I suggested extra help and tutoring for these tests.  All of these skills will show up on their Six Weeks Tests, Semester Tests, and throughout their academic career.

Journal Check:

I monitor journal writing by doing these checks.  Students are asked to turn to a specific date (they do not know the day until the day of the check) of a journal prompt.  I make sure they are doing their entries as I ask.  Please click here on the Journal Prompts link: JOURNAL PROMPTS  for more details on requirements.

EXEMPT GRADES:

This is when students are absent, and the grade hasn't been averaged.
