All about Energy

Science project 5th 6 weeks

The following project is designed to have your group research different aspects of energy.  Realize that everything has energy and the law of conservation says it cannot be created or destroyed just transferred from one source to another.

To follow are the steps of the project to be completed by your group.  I will set as a tentative date of March 5th for all steps to be completed.

1.       Formulate one experiment showing a type of energy in action. Present this experiment to the class time limit 5 minutes. All materials for your experiment must be approved by the teacher.

2.       Make a poster (81/2 by 11) that illustrates the value of an alternative energy source.  Your poster should promote the energy source as one that needs to be used.

3.       Research a government agency that promotes some type of energy use and report to the class your findings. Time limit for this speech will be three minutes.  PowerPoint can be used here if the group deems it necessary.

4.       Come up with 5 situations where the formulas for energy are used; these situations should be typed out and added to a compiled listing for the entire class.  Class will be given an assignment for this step to complete for a grade.

5.       Complete a PowerPoint presentation showing the future of the United States in terms of energy consumption. This can be added to step number three or done as a separate PowerPoint.

Class time will be given to complete this project but some of the research must be done at home.  Groups will have at least four people in them and they will be randomly selected by job title.  March 5th is the deadline for all parts of this project to be completed and presentation will take place after that date.

Organizer – will keep up with all progress the group is making. ( will assist the experimenter)

Researcher – will do research for the project ( this may need to be two people from the group)

Artist – poster completion will be main job but some work on the PowerPoint’s as well

Experimenter – in charge of the experiment mentioned above
