"GROWING MINDS GARDEN"

Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grant Program
March 2010 -- St. Clair Elementary School was recently awarded a Toolbox for
Education grant from Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores in the amount of $4800.
Ms. Holly Hughes, art teacher at St. Clair, initiated the grant application
and will be in charge of the project. Ms. Hughes, along with fellow
teachers and parent volunteers will be building the “Growing Minds Garden”
at the school. Included in the garden will be herbs and plants native to
East Tennessee and Appalachia. The “Growing Minds Garden” will provide an
opportunity for hands-on learning in the areas of science and social
studies. The garden will also serve as a quiet location for students to
read or just enjoy nature. The project is currently underway with lots of
work on the agenda for the warm spring days to come. If you are interested
in donating time or materials, please contact Mr. Floyd at St. Clair
Elementary at 235-2721. The “Growing Minds Garden” will be complete and
ready to use when school resumes in August.
