Appalachian Days

On November 2, 2007 McPheeter's Bend celebrated Appalachian Days. Here is a collection of pictures from the day.

 

Horse and Buggy Ride

Allen Bradley and family rode the students on a horse and buggy ride around the school grounds.

Hale Vance, Jim Bowman, and Mr. Simpson play bluegrass and country music in the gym throughout the day. During lunch, Appalachian Strings entertains with bluegrass music.

David and Gloria Hutson make lye soap outside.

E.T.S.U. storytellers keep the students entertained in the cafeteria.

Connie Casus and our own Mrs. Leonard make homemade toys for the students. Each student was allowed to make a spinner to keep and each class received a homemade doll.

Mr. and Mrs. Calcote demonstrate rope-making for each class. Each class got to take a length back with them.

Ron Russell shows his talent at wood carving. In particular, he showcases his homemade dulcimers.

Ms. Alexander revisits McPheeter's Bend to display basket weaving and showcase her own handmade baskets.

 

Cooking Apple Butter[mbes/photogallery/photo00008829/real.htm]

Virginia Cole made apple butter behind the school. In addition to helping stir, each student got to sample the delicious food with biscuits prepared in our own cafeteria.
