 Congratulations Mrs. Chambers!

Below are some comments that were submitted by Mrs. Chambers for the 2008 Teacher of the Year handbook that was shared with everyone who attended the banquet:

"I hope that I have touched the lives of my students and encouraged them to be the best that they can be.  Like most teachers, I try to keep track of many of my students.  I think of those students who have gone on to college or are successfully working and supporting their families.  I am so proud of them, not because of something I did, but because of their desire to be a better student and person.   I would like to think that they encouragement I gave them helped them accomplish their goals.  The contributions that school counselors make often cannot be measured by a state mandated test but can be seen in the lives of individual students.

I can see the contributions made to HES.  As co-chair of the School Improvement Team, I can say that I helped to develop the plan which guides our school.  Our test scores are great and our students are learning.  Our school is part of the county-wide school-wide positive behavior support program.  As team leader, I feel as if I have led our school into developing a program which encourages all students.  I have also developed a school schedule which allows teachers time during the school day to tutor those students who need extra help to master the required skills.   This was a difficult task but one which makes a big difference in our student achievement.  I am proud to be a part of Hawkins Elementary School."   - Susan Chambers
