Puppet Show

Students were treated to a wonderful puppet show, "Out of the Mist of a Dragon," from Artistree Productions.  After the program, the puppeteers gave a brief history about puppetry. Students and faculty learned that in Japan it takes 30 years for one to become a Master Puppeteer, and that it takes tremendous strength and stamina because some of the puppets weigh 40 lbs.! Students learned that puppetry has been an integral part of Japan's culture for over 800 years.  The puppeteers also showed examples of other kinds of puppets including shadow puppets which are popular in Indonesia, Mr. Punch and Judy puppets which originated in England, and the Pacific Northwest Native American Tribe puppet masks. This puppet performance was funded by a grant written by Ms. Joanne Greene-Beatty sponsored by the Rose Center Arts Council.  Thanks Ms. Greene-Beatty!
