      EMS 2009

After reviewing previous safety programs (camping/hiking safety and swimming pool safety), Brenda Joyner of Hawkins County EMS presented the Hawkins County EMS annual safety program to all students at HES.  Assisted by Hawkins County EMS personnel, Patti Davis and Robin Greer, Ms. Joyner taught a safety program emphasizing "Preventing Head Injuries."  With student participation and student-involved demonstrations, students learned the benefit of wearing helmets while riding Four-Wheelers, bikes and skateboards.

HES students were also informed that a new reward program for helmet safety has just been started in our area.

Quoting a letter given to each HES student from Ric Chapman (Director of Hawkins County EMS):

"Local businesses have donated coupons for free ice creams, burgers, and kids' meals to be given away.  We are going to be giving these free prizes to children that we see wearing helmets while riding bikes or skateboards.  We have warned the children not to approach the ambulances if they are responding to a call or if we are working with a patient.  Please team up with us so we can help our children stay safe by good common sense practices.    We hope your child learned from our visit and stay safe because of it.  If one child is saved by wearing a helmet, it will all be worth it to us.  If it is your child, it will be PRICELESS....!"  (Ric Chapman, Director EMS)

THANK YOU  Hawkins County EMS from Hawkins Elementary!
