| In
August 2007, Hawkins Elementary implemented School-Wide
Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS). SWPBS is a
nationally recognized researched-based system designed to
enhance the capacity of schools to educate all children by
developing school wide and classroom discipline systems.
SWPBS defines, teaches, and reinforces appropriate student
behavior to create a positive school environment. (Information

Hawkins Elementary School had 6 staff
members trained in 2007 by The Partnership for Ed Excellence at
the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in the many facets of
SWPBS and additional in-depth training for the school's
administration was provided in 2008. Hawkins County is one of
only 7 districts in Tennessee to implement SWPBS at the
system level.
SWPBS
focuses on prevention and teaching expectations in order to
provide a predictable, safe, positive and consistent
environment. Hawkins Elementary School's faculty has utilized
multiple opportunities instructing students regarding expected
behaviors, and these expected rules are retaught and reviewed
throughout the school year as needed.

Hawkins
Elementary School's rules are: Be Here! Be Respectful! Be
Responsible! Be Safe!
With SWPBS,
students will be able to earn Bearcat Bucks for
various positive behaviors. Bearcat Bucks
will be given to students when they are seen following
one of the school rules. In addition, rewards can be earned for
perfect attendance. Students who have earned Bearcat
Bucks will have the privilege to attend the reward
celebrations every six weeks and can “cash in” their Bearcat
Bucs for various prizes.
