In accordance with the McKinney-Vento Act, local education agencies must ensure that homeless students have equal access to the same free appropriate public education as provided to other students. The Hawkins County Homeless Education Program is facilitated through the Family Resource Center. The Resource Center is responsible for making sure homeless students are enrolled immediately, assisting families in getting school and immunization records, ensuring student transportation, educating families of all school and community resources, settling disputes between schools and families, and informing the community of homeless students' rights.
