A bill known as the Jason Flatt Act of 2007 requiring school systems to provide two hours of training in suicide prevention passed April 16. 2007.  This law takes effect with the school year 2008-2009.  

As stated by the TCA, Section 49-6-3004(c)(1), the following is added:
The Commissioner shall require that in-service training include at least two (2) hours of suicide prevention education for all teachers and principals each school year.  This education may be accomplished through self-review of suitable suicide prevention materials.

There is a test at the end of the course. Upon completion of the test a certificate will be generated by email.  Keep this for your records.
