It is proven that a student's reading level has a direct effect on his/her academic achievement.  The purpose of the Summer Reading Program is to encourage all CHIS students to enjoy reading and to view it as a means to gain valuable knowledge for a lifetime.

2011-2012 5th Graders:

You will be required to read Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary.

2011-2012 6th Graders:

You will be required to read Woods Runner by Gary Paulsen.

* Students will need to write a brief summary for each chapter of the book.  Discuss the setting, characters, and events in the chapter.  This assignment will be due during the first week of school.  Students will be taking an AR test for the book.
