Student Art Work

Lifecycles are fun to watch!  Monarchs will be laying their eggs on milkweed plants soon.  We will able to experience the miracle of a caterpillar changing into a butterfly in our classrooms.  I can't wait!

Chickens are nice to watch, too.

Did you know that it takes a snapping turtle egg 60 - 90 days to hatch?

Did you know that a wooly worm turns into a moth named Isabella?

Wooly worms survive the winter in a dormant state by secreting chemicals called cryoprotectants that keep their tissues safe from freezing.  Crazy!

We recycle in the art room - sometimes even students!

The art room is always in need of family volunteers to assist with special projects.

We also always need things such as fabric scraps, baby wipes, tissues, hand sanitizer, and liquid soap.

Children LOVE to talk about their art work.  Please consider taking a few moments to discuss the work that your child has brought home.  Pleasant surprises await you!

Some of our major themes this year will cover:

  • Art in Science

  • Re-duce, Re-cycle, Re-use

  • Academic Vocabulary

  • Art skills and techniques

  • Careers in art

  • Independent thinking

  • Creativity

  • Tennessee History and Culture

Welcome to art at St. Clair and McPheeter's Bend Elementary Schools!

My name is Holly Hughes and I am so proud to be your art teacher.  You can learn more about me on the "About Me" page.  This is my third year teaching art in Hawkins County: it is my goal to create a positive learning environment that fosters self-confidence, learning across the curriculum, and creativity.  I recognize that each child has special talents and gifts.  The art room is the ideal place to develop these wonderful individualities.
