Student Expectations

  I would like to welcome you to 8th Grade Science at CHMS.  I hope this website will answer some questions you may have concerning by class.

Supplies:

1.  Pencil or Pen

2.  Notebook Paper

3.  Supplies for Projects and Science Labs (poster board, colored pencils, etc.)  Students will have several days notice to bring these materials to class.

Grading Scale:

A  100 - 93       B  92 - 85       C  84 - 75       D  74  - 70       F  Below 70

Assignment Weights:

1.  Tests will count 50%

2.  Homework, Quizzes, Journals, and Conduct Grades will count 30%

3.  Project and Science Lab Grades will count 20%

Classroom Rule:  All students

1.  Will be Respectful of themselves and others

Policies and Guidelines:

  •   Mature and appropriate behavior is expected at all times.  Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.
  •  Do NOT write on desk or in textbooks as these items are expensive and must be used by many students.
  •   Raise your hand if you have any questions or comments.
  •   Use time between classes for running errands.  (Ex. To go to guidance, to see another teacher, etc.)
  •   Please use the restroom between classes.  Each student has five minutes between each class to go to the bathroom.  Bathroom privileges during class time can be revoked if privileges are being abused.  Class time is very important and needs to be used wisely.  There can be exceptions to the rule (doctors excuse or sickness).
  •   Listen to all authority figures.  If the teacher is not in class, and there is a substitute teacher, there is an automatic detention for a student who misbehaves.

All Assignments:

  •   No work will be accepted in Red Ink.
  •   Must be legible.  If not, a grade of zero will be given.
  •   All assignments must include name, date, and name of assignment in the upper right hand side of the paper.

Progress Reports:

  •   Progress Reports will be given to the students each 3-weeks.

Make-up Work:

  •  Each student is responsible for making up all assigned work.  Do not ask the teacher:  What did I miss yesterday?   Each days activities will be written on the classroom calendar on the bulletin board.  Missed worksheets will be in the make-up basket.  These are sorted by class period.

Lab Experiments:

  •   During each six-weeks, students will be performing experiments that relate to the state science standards the class is studying.  He/She might be asked to bring in ordinary household items to help perform these experiments.  Thank you for your cooperation.
  •   Horseplay will not be tolerated in the Lab because it is extremely dangerous.  Improper conduct will lead to loss of privileges in Science Lab.

No Cell Phones or IPods:

  •   Any Cell Phone or IPod being used during school hours without permission from a teacher or administrator will be confiscated until a parent is able to pick it up from school (School Board Policy).

Extra Credit:

  • Students will be provided with extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.  Once a six-weeks students may bring in the following items for Extra Credit:  Kleenex Tissues, Hand Sanitizer, Clorox Wipes, Liquid Soap, Construction Paper, etc.

Consequences for Bad Behavior:

1st Offense:  A Verbal Warning (The teacher will warn students the first time a rule is broken).

2nd Offense:  A Writing Assignment (The teacher will give students a topic to write about; depending on the students attitude and actions, which will determine the amount of writing).

3rd Offense:  The student will be given a detention, which is served after school.  If a student misses a detention, the student will be given an ISS.

4th Offense:  Office Referral
