  Interjection  
SPI 8.3.5 Interjection: Used to catch a reader's attention or expression.
It may stand alone; when this is the case, they are followed by an explanation.
Rats! It's raining.
  When interjections introduce a sentence, they are followed by a comma. Oh, I'll stay in and study.
 

Appositive

 
8.3.7 Appositive: Is a word or group of words that renames the noun that precedes it.  
When an appositive is not necessary for clarity, it is set off by commas.
Mr. Johnston, my teacher, is nice.
  When the appositive is necessary for the meaning of the sentence, it is not set off by commas. My teacher Mr. Johnston is nice.

Infinitive

SPI 8.3.7 Infinitive is a verb that can not be changed by number, time, or mood.
It is formed by adding to to the simple form of the verb

Prepositions And Conjunctions

Prepositions: help describe and show relationships between things.
Prepositional Phrase consists of a preposition and the object of the preposition, usually a noun or pronoun.

Coordinating conjunction connect two similar sentence parts.

Gerunds and Participial Phrases

A gerund is a verb that act as a noun. Gerunds end in "ing".  A gerund can stand alone or be part of a phrase. Exercising is Mr. Taylor's favorite activity.
To recognize a gerund, replace the "ing" word with a noun that means similar Exercise is Mr. Taylor's favorite activity.
Participle is a verb form used as an adjective.  Most participles end in "ing  ed or en ", although irregular verbs may have different endings such as d or t. Like Gerunds, participles can stand alone or be part of phrases. Relieved to be finished with bus duty, Mrs. Price enjoyed the afternoon outside.

Punctuation: Clarifies the meaning of a sentence. A comma (,) is a punctuation  mark.
  Use a comma:
to separate three or more items
Example: We are studying commas, appositives, gerunds, and conjunctions
