Learning Objectives for McPheeter's Bend and Keplar Elementary Music
Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music The students will develop the skills for singing repetitive songs, reproducing short and long sounds and pitches, and sing from memory songs of many styles. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music The students will develop skill in reproducing a steady beat as well as various rhythm patterns. Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniment The students will create sounds to accompany stories, invent their own musical sentences, and improvise simple rhythmic and melodic variations on simple melodies. Reading and notating music The students will recognize symbols which represent melodic and rhythmic patterns, Listening to, analyzing, and describing music The students will recognize likenesses and differences (high/low; long/short; fast/slow). The students will also recognize the differences in tone color of voices and instruments as well as other music elements. Understanding relationships between between music and other disciplines outside the arts The students will use simple folk songs in relation to geography, literature, language art activities, and instruments to interrelate music and the science of sound. Understanding music in relation to history and culture The students will experience folk songs and games from various cultures, identify music from different time periods, identify works of great composers, and integrate opera, theatre, and symphonic performances.
