I teach math and reading whole group and then for 30 to 45 minutes we work in centers.  During centers I pull small groups to work on the skills that we are learning in class.  These centers relate to the skills we are learning in class for example, math centers may consist of 1. Counting number of objects to match the number 2. Math game board where they spin the wheel and match the shape to a shape on the board, and 3. Measuring objects around the room or in the basket with cubes and writing their answer on paper provided.   This allows the students to have extra time working on the skills we have learned.
Remember that we use a lot of hands on materials in the classroom; therefore if your child misses school they have missed a lot of instruction for the day.  Please have your child at school.  We miss them when they are not here.

What can I do to help my child at home?   Your child has two folders that come home nightly. The red folder contains the work we did during class or any important notes for you. It also contains a Week at a Peek note on the back cover.  On this note you will find the things that we are working on in the classroom  that you can work with your child at home. The other folder has a list of sight words and a book to read. These are the things that will help your child progress in Kindergarten. You should go over any papers that have been sent home with your child.  Let them explain to you what they did on them.
