Each night your child has a homework folder. It contains a packet of worksheets from our reading series, this is due on Friday. We also have sight word baggies. These contain the words we are working on.  When they learn their words, they will get new ones. Please go over the sight words each night. Reinforce at home counting to 100. Practice writing the alphabet and the numbers (0 - 30).

Here is a list of the sight words that your child needs to work on:

I                    am                 the                      little                   to                  a

Have             is                   my                      like                     he

For               me                 with                    she                      see

Look            they               you                     of                       are

One              that               three                  go                        two

Do               four               here                   five                      from

Kindergarten children should be able to read and recognize simple sight words.

Remember that we use a lot of hands on materials in the classroom; therefore if your child misses school they have missed a lot of instruction for the day. We miss them when they are not here.

Do I need to return folders each day? Yes, return the folders each day.  the purple folder is our communication folder.  I will send home important notes and the work they did during the day.  The Homework folder needs to be returned also.  We read the paper book in the folder during small groups and I may send another book home with them. Also return the bag of words.  We read them and do activities with them during small group.

What can I do to help my child at home? There are a lot of things you can do at home to help your child succeed in Kindergarten..

*Talk to your child. Engage them into talking by telling them what you did during the day and then they can tell you what they did. Don't just ask, how was your day?

*Look at their work and ask them what they had to do on it  and have them teach you. They love being the teacher. Talk to them about how good they did or if they made mistakes, talk them through the problems and show them it's okay, they are still learning.

*Do the homework, it reinforces what we are doing in the classroom, it also allows you to know what your child is learning.

*Have fun. Kindergarten is a time of learning, but we still need fun time.

*Hug your child and tell them you love them; they are growing up so fast.
