Dear Parent or Guardian,
February is the month of love. We
love the hugs, smiles, and laughter of the children. We
love to see how caring and respectful they are to one
another. We love to see students engaged in learning.
We love to see how everyone is striving to do their
best. We love our students!
We love our teachers and staff
at Surgoinsville Elementary School. Our teachers and staff
truly care about the children. They amaze me each day with their
compassion and understanding. We are extremely fortunate to
have such a group of dedicated people.
We love PTSO. They are
currently sponsoring the king/queen contest. We are challenging
each student to sell at least five sheets for a total of $25.00.
We would raise over $11,000.00!!!!!! Tickets are only .50 each
for a chance to win a $100.00 Wal-Mart gift card and other
numerous restaurant and business gift cards. If the student
sells the most tickets in his/her homeroom, s/he will be
prince/princess and earn a trophy at the Valentine Dance. If
the student sells the most for the school, s/he will be crowned
king/queen and will receive a trophy, sash, crown/tiara, and
picture in the yearbook and Rogersville Review. Ask for
tickets from your child’s teacher. Don’t forget to ask family,
friends, co-workers, church members, neighbors, and businesses
to sponsor your child. Money is due for prince/princess on
February 3. Please help us achieve our goal!
PTSO is sponsoring a Valentine Dance
on February 10 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Admission is $3.00. Our
king/queen will also be crowned along with the parade of each
homeroom’s prince and princess at the beginning of the dance.
PTSO will be taking orders for
Valentine carnations with your special message to be delivered
to students on Valentine’s Day. All orders are due by Friday,
February 10. The cost is $2.00.
Students showed their love for
their community by collecting over 2,000 cans in our recent food
drive sponsored by PTSO!!!!! Way to go!!!!!!
Please continue to collect box tops
from General Mills products. We have made over $2,400.00 with
Box Tops for Education as of January! Proceeds will help
fund celebrations at the end of the year.
We are still asking for parent or
community volunteers to help tutor students during intervention
time. If you know of anyone who is interested, please contact
your child’s teacher. We especially need the extra help as we
get closer to TCAP testing.
As new federal and state guidelines
get more challenging to achieve, we really need your
help. Please view and sign your child’s planner each night,
assist with homework as needed, and read with your child on a
daily basis. Encourage your child to visit educational
websites for additional practice. Teachers can tell the
parents/caregivers that work with their child. Our goal is to
make straight A’s on the state report card.
Please make sure we have updated phone
and addresses at all times. Please give changes to your child’s
homeroom teacher as soon as they occur. Teachers will provide
the information to the office so our computers and
emergency notebooks will always have correct information in the
event of an emergency. You may also call or come by the office
with the information.
Many games and activities are
available for loan for family engagement. A sample of items is
in the office and more are in the reading intervention room. If
there is a skill that your child needs to practice, make it fun
by borrowing a game. Let the teacher know or visit the school
to see our collection. Items may be borrowed for one week.
Please make sure to return all contents of the game.
If the outside temperature and/or wind
chill factor is above 40 degrees, students will be going outside
each day due to the physical activity law. Please make sure your
child wears a coat to school daily.
We congratulate Jaylyn Egbert who won
the 4th grade Spelling Bee along with Carter Brownlee
who was first runner up. Good job!
Children are precious and are only
ours for a short time. Please take time each day to tell your
child that you love him/her. We certainly love the children of
SES!!!!!! Have a wonderful February….Happy Valentine’s Day!
Respectfully,
Susan Trent
