The students in Mr. Price’s class at Hawkins Elementary School began a project in August to learn more about plants. Students began by cultivating the soil, and planting the seeds. Students learned that all seeds require 4 things to germinate. Once germination took place the students began caring for the plants by weeding, watering and feeding the soil. Students learned that frost will kill pepper plants, but had little effect on the two types of sunflowers they were growing in their garden. Hopefully all plants will bloom before winter is here to stay. With these sunflowers being heirloom seeds future third graders will be able to use seeds from the previous year’s class project. It truly will be the plant that keeps on giving.
