Approximately three hundred projects and inventions were on display at Surgoinsville Middle School on December 3, 2015 as part of a school-wide initiative to encourage hands-on science. Students in grades five through eight had the option to research a scientific principle, perform an experiment using scientific methods, or create an invention utilizing the engineering design process. The project was completed outside of class with the hope that families would engage in the scientific process together with students being ultimately responsible for the design and creation of their project. The school’s cafeteria was transformed into an avenue for students to display their science skills as well as an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the accomplishments of its students. On behalf of the staff and administration of Surgoinsville Middle School, we would like to thank the students, families, and the community for making Science Night a huge success.
