DID YOU KNOW?

¨ TCRS requests that you submit your retirement application 2-3 months prior to retirement

¨ Hawkins County Schools provides life insurance at no charge until you reach age 70. This insurance terminates at age 70.  If you retire at age 65 or later, you will not eligible to receive the retiree life insurance benefit.

¨ Payment of health insurance coverage shall be available for any retiring employee at the same cost as for other employees until the employee reaches age sixty-five (65), provided that:

1.     The employee is eligible for retirement under the eligibility standards as set by Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System; and

2.    The employee was enrolled in the Board-sponsored insurance plan for the appropriate amount of time as per rules set by the State.

¨ You may keep your State dental insurance indefinitely.

¨ Upon retirement, Hawkins County Schools will pay certificated personnel $100 for every year of service in Hawkins County Schools up to 20 years. (A total of $2,000 honorarium paid to you in July.)

¨ TCRS will give you 1 month of service credit for every 20 unused sick days you have at retirement. This credit is applied to your years of service with TCRS and increases your TCRS benefit; i.e. 10-month employees who have 200 sick days with 29 years of service can retire with 30 years’ service credit.

¨ Hawkins County will pay you a bonus for your unused sick days at retirement:

0-100 days            $25.00 per accumulated day

101-200 days        $30.00 per accumulated day

201-300 days        $35.00 per accumulated day

 301+                     $40.00 per accumulated day

¨ You may qualify for Hawkins County Schools’ Early Retirement Incentive.

Hawkins County Schools will pay you 10% of your highest paid year for 7 years

or until you reach the age of 62 (whichever comes first). This is in addition to

     your TCRS benefit.

¨ Continuing to work after 30 years of service does not necessarily increase your TCRS benefit unless you experience a substantial increase in salary.

¨ If you reach the age of 62 and have 30 years of service, you no longer qualify for the Early Retirement Incentive.
