The Hawkins County Schools Technology Department is comprised of five on-site and full-time staff members dedicated to maintaining the ever-growing technology infrastructure of Hawkins County Schools.  The Technology Department also enjoys the assistance of Jeff Henderson (MerIT Group), who supports us in these efforts.  Our staff provides comprehensive technology support services, including the installation of new equipment, repair and maintenance of existing instructional and administrative computer systems, and implementation of networked services.  Additionally, the Technology Department also provides support services for our distance learning projects.  Listed below are some of our most recent major upgrades to the infrastructure in our district:

·    Enterprise wide Active Directory

Hawkins county has established a distributed enterprise wide Active Directory which provides an administrative barrier and directory for all users and computers in the district. This active directory is one of the largest in TN K12 and offers comprehensive manageability and security for users and administrators alike.

·    Server Virtualization

VMware vSphere provides a virtual platform to run mission critical servers and services in virtual machines instead of physical machines. Drastically reduces costs, increases disaster recovery preparedness, decreases administrative duty.

 ·    Comprehensive Data Continuity

Users store critical data on network provided shares. This data is backed up with 30 day retention as well as duplicated to readily available network shares for quick recovery.

 ·    Security

o Enterprise AntiVirus

The entire Hawkins County enterprise is protected by comprehensive antivirus/spyware/malware protection. This not only protects critical data and systems, but also protects against personal devices as they come and go in and out of the network.

o Automated system updates

System are scheduled and updated automatically through administrator controller WSUS

·    Streamlined System Imaging

System images are now deployed over the network in a matter of moments instead of traditional installations. This increases user productivity and decreases system down time and administrative duty.

·    Enterprise monitoring

Hawkins has implemented comprehensive enterprise monitoring to now only quickly display any server outages, but also provide proactive visibility into system states and potential issues before they happen.

·    Disaster Recovery Preparedness

Hawkins County has taken measures to backup critical databases, applications, and data. Each virtual machine is backed up and ready for rapid system restore and physical servers are configured with system state as well as database/application backups.
